Sex scandal row: Prajwal's father booked in kidnapping case
What's the story
HD Revanna, a former minister of Karnataka and current JD(S) MLA, is facing accusations in a kidnapping case.
The charges originate from a police complaint lodged by a 20-year-old man alleging his mother was kidnapped by an associate of Revanna.
The woman, previously employed at Revanna's home and farm, allegedly appears in sex tapes with Prajwal Revanna, Revanna's son.
Investigation
Police initiate kidnapping case against Revanna
The police have initiated a case against Revanna and Satish Babanna, a local resident, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for kidnapping-related charges.
The incident reportedly occurred on April 29. Babanna had previously visited the woman's home claiming that Bhavani, Revanna's wife, needed her services.
The complaint also alleges that Babanna threatened the family with legal repercussions if they reported to the police.
Scandal
Sex tape scandal exacerbates political tensions
The woman remains missing and the police suspect involvement from a former MLA.
Some people appearing in Prajwal's sex tape have reportedly been contacted, possibly to deter them from filing cases.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has called for state government action against those disseminating the explicit videos.
This scandal has heightened existing tensions within the Deve Gowda family and negatively impacted their political standing in Karnataka.
Investigation
Special investigation team announced for the case
In response to these allegations, Prajwal was temporarily suspended from the JD(S) until an investigation could be conducted.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was announced by the Congress-led government in Karnataka to handle the case. Revanna reportedly left for Frankfurt before the SIT was announced, prompting demands for his return to India from Congress.
Further allegations of sexual harassment against Prajwal and Revanna were made by a woman who had previously worked in Revanna's home.
