Two sisters in Secunderabad, Telangana, were compelled to stay with their deceased mother's body for almost a week as they couldn't afford the cremation.
The women, identified as Ravalika (25), who works at a saree shop, and Ashvitha (22), who is an event planner, couldn't pay for the cremation after their mother, C Lalitha, died of an illness.
The family had been without financial support since 2020 when their father left after disputes.

Sisters seek help for cremation costs, police alerted
In their dire situation, the sisters turned to a local multi-purpose hall for help with the cremation expenses.
The hall authorities then informed Chilkalguda police, who in turn alerted the Boudhanagar Police Station.
A police team was sent to probe the matter.
The incident came to the fore when neighbors noticed a foul smell coming from the house and alerted law enforcement officials.
Investigation initiated
Police investigation underway, postmortem conducted
On being alerted by neighbors, authorities shifted Lalitha's body to a hospital for postmortem on Friday.
According to reports, the family had moved to Warasiguda only two months ago.
In their quest for help, the sisters had also contacted a relative in Amberpet but to no avail.
Further investigation into the details of this incident is underway.
