UP: Newborn dies after 30-minute sun exposure on doctor's advice
A five-day-old newborn girl died after being exposed to direct sunlight for approximately 30 minutes in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh. The family alleged that this advice was given by a doctor at Sri Sai Hospital, the birthplace of the infant. This incident has ignited widespread outrage in the city, with accusations of "gross negligence" leveled against the doctor.
Mother's ordeal: Forced discharge after newborn's death
Rita Devi, a resident of Bhugai village in Mainpuri, had given birth to the baby girl through a C-section at Sri Sai Hospital. Five days after the birth, on May 15, the newborn started showing signs of health issues. A doctor then advised the family to expose the infant to direct sunlight for half an hour. Tragically, shortly after this exposure, the baby passed away.
Investigation initiated: Doctor accused of gross negligence
After learning that the baby had died, the doctor who allegedly advised the sun exposure fled from the hospital. Devi was also allegedly forcefully discharged from the hospital. The cause of death was determined to be heatstroke due to excessive and unmonitored exposure to the sun in high temperatures. Mainpuri's Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. RC Gupta, confirmed that an investigation has been initiated into this matter. "Action will be taken after investigation," stated Dr. Gupta.
