Fake IAS-officer, who pressurized SP to get work done, arrested
On Saturday, the Greater Noida police said that a man who was impersonating an IAS officer has been arrested. The accused, Mani Tyagi, was charged with fraud. Tyagi, who is in his late 20s, recently called up the Gautam Budh Nagar (Rural) Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal and pressurized him to do some work of his acquaintance. Here's what happened.
SP smelled something fishy after Tyagi called him
Tyagi, who is a resident of Sahibabad in Ghaziabad, used to call officers and mention his batch and cadre to build pressure on them, Jaiswal revealed. However, when he called Jaiswal, the officer thought something was suspicious. He put the number on surveillance which was traced to Ghaziabad. After a probe, Tyagi was arrested by a team of the Badalpur Police Station.
Tyagi claims he used name of a distant relative
While BA graduate Tyagi claimed he worked as a supervisor in a company, his statements are yet to be verified by the police. He also said he had just called Jaiswal, some officials in a sales tax office and Hazratganj Police Station in Lucknow. Tyagi told reporters he used the name of a distant relative of his, who was currently posted in Tripura.
Tyagi claims he never took money from anyone
"I have only done it a few times to help some people with their work, I have never taken money from anyone," Tyagi told reporters. Booked for fraud and other related offenses, Tyagi was remanded to judicial custody.
Earlier, a fake IAS officer was held for cheating people
Notably, Tyagi isn't the only one to have impersonated an IAS officer. In September, Chennai police arrested a 28-year-old man named Navappan who duped nearly 100 people of Rs. 3 crore. Navappan had claimed he was an IAS officer and took money from youth, promising them government jobs. He gave them forged appointment orders. When people asked him about the development, he threatened them.
