Scam: Fake funds similar to Akshay Kumar's martyr donation portal
The 'Bharat Ke Veer' portal for donations to martyrs' families based on Akshay Kumar's idea is being targeted by frauds, who have floated similar-looking fake funds to scam people. One that has come to light is named 'Army Welfare Fund Battle Casualties'. It loots people by providing bank account details to 'donate' money to martyrs. Instead, the money gets redirected to the frauds.
Akshay Kumar's idea for donation to martyrs gets life
The 'BharatKeVeer' website was launched on April 9 based on Kumar's idea. Through it, people can donate up to Rs. 15 lakh to families of jawans or Central Armed Police Forces officers martyred in the line of duty. Within a month, it collected Rs. 2.10cr. Rs. 60L was earmarked for families of the Sukma martyrs. 2.60cr people visited the website in the same period.
Government mulls increased compensation to martyrs' families
Rajnath Singh said that presently, the family of a martyred security personnel ranges from Rs. 40 to 50 lakh. However, the government is trying to increase that amount to at least Rs. 1 crore. Some states have gaps in compensations, but the Centre has assured them it will cover that gap, Singh said.
