#NewsBytesExclusive: Meet Gaurangi Chawla, the CBSE Class 12 second topper
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the Class-12 exam results on May 2. While Hansika Shukla and Karishma Arora emerged the toppers, scoring 499/500 marks, Gaurangi Chawla and two other girls shared the second rank this year. In an exclusive interview with NewsBytes, Gaurangi talked about her preparation strategy and also gave some advice to students appearing for Class-12 exams next year.
A proud moment for the whole family, says Gaurangi
With a score of 498/500, Gaurangi emerged one of the Class-12 second toppers. When asked how she feels being the second ranker, Gaurangi said, "I feel very happy. It's a proud moment for the whole family." She added, "My parents and family were expecting (that she would be a topper). I was expecting a rank in the state-level list, not an All India Rank."
Gaurangi's subjects in Class 12 and the marks she secured
Gaurangi is a student of Nirmal Ashram Deepmala Public School in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. She was a student of the Humanities stream and her subjects in Class 12 were English, Geography, History, Physical Education, and Political Science. While she scored a perfect 100 each in three subjects - Geography, History, and Physical Education - Gaurangi lost one mark each in English and Political Science.
How did Gaurangi prepare for the Class 12 exams?
When asked what her daily schedule was like and how many hours she used to study for, Gaurangi said, "I made targets for each day." "Like this portion of the syllabus must be completed that day...no matter how long it would take," she added. She said she used to focus on the number of topics to be covered rather than the number of hours.
The second topper didn't join online/offline classes for exam preparation
Talking about her exam preparation process, Gaurangi revealed that she did not join any tuition classes or take online programs to clear the Class-12 exams. She, however, added, "No tuition, but I opted for online videos (to help in exam preparation)." Gaurangi said she used to watch videos on the YouTube platform which helped her prepare better for the exams.
What does Gaurangi think of social media?
Asked if she was active on social media while preparing for the exams, Gaurangi said, "Yes, I was active. I do not think that social media would distract you if you use it in a positive way. So, I was active."
Do not take stress: Gaurangi's advice to Class 12 students
Gaurangi also gave some advice to students who are going to appear for Class 12 exams. "Do not take any stress. Studies must be regarded as a challenge. It should be fun but it should not be regarded as a burden," she said. "We have to work hard but we have to be relaxed too," she added.
Gaurangi also revealed her future plans
During the interview, Gaurangi also talked about her career plans and revealed what she wants to do next. She plans to pursue Geography Honors from Delhi University and also wants to prepare for the Civil Services Examination.
