Exam racket that lets you cheat from home 'busted'
Jharkhand police have busted an exam racket that allowed students to cheat from their own homes. The racket was being facilitated by middle-men who were carrying the written papers for submission at the exam centre. Based on preliminary investigation, school officials are possibly involved in perpetuating the scam. Students caught were cheating in Class 10 and 12 exams held by Jharkhand Academic Council.
Rampant cheating in exams in Jharkhand
Exams for class 10 and 12 began in Jharkhand on February 18 and will end March 7: 8 lakh children will appear in these exams. Massive cheating has already led to 300 students being expelled. On February 20, English paper of class 12 was leaked on WhatsApp soon after exams started. The administration has been cracking down on use of gadgets in examination halls.
Crackdown on exam racket
Reportedly, few students had received the exam paper well in advance and wrote the exam at home. Local youth had suspected a middleman for being involved in unfair practices with respect to exams and nabbed him while he was on his way to submit answer sheets. He was handed over to authorities at the exam centre and the police were called.
Administration swings into action
Students who were caught writing exams from home were marked absent by the school. The district district administration swung into action and dismissed the magistrate, centre superintendent and even invigilators at the centre where the exam was being conducted. An FIR has been registered against Pradyuman Pandey, the middleman who was nabbed by locals and handed over to the police.
Investigation committee has been established
Vice chairman of Jharkhand Academic Council, Phool Singh told the media that "We have set up a probe committee in this regard to find out how the answer sheet went outside the centre."
