Everyone has right to practise own faith, including me: Adityanath
UP CM Yogi Adityanath said everyone has the right to practise their faith, and being a Hindu, he is also entitled to visit religious places like Ayodhya and Mathura. "I have not stopped anyone from celebrating Eid or Christmas during my 11-month tenure as CM," he said. He added the government plans to develop religious sites into world-class tourist destinations.
'Will continue visiting Ayodhya, Mathura, Varanasi, Chitrakoot'
Taking stock of security at Mathura's Krishna Janmabhoomi temple, Adityanath said, "Diwali is celebrated in Ayodhya, Holi in Mathura, Dev Diwali in Varanasi, Kumbh in Prayagraj and Ramayan Mela in Chitrakoot and we would continue going there." Asked if he would celebrate Eid like he celebrated Diwali, he said, "Everyone has the freedom to practice or follow their religion and I, being a Hindu, have the (same) right."
Government plans to develop religious sites as "world-class tourist destinations"
Adityanath also talked of the government's plans to develop religious spots as "world-class tourist destinations." He said they would take steps to ensure pilgrims' security and comfort as well as conservation and growth of the sites. The Krishna Janmabhoomi temple, where he was reviewing security, shares a boundary wall with a mosque. "We would improve arrangements here and would address security measures," he said.
