Stricter security checks at airports till the New Year
If you are traveling this festive season, prepare for intensive security checks at airports. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has asked airports to maintain high vigil in this "vulnerable period". "(Several) instances have occurred...when this period has been chosen by terrorists/antinational elements to perpetrate acts of terrorism," it says. Directions include regulating entry into terminals, scrutinizing parked vehicles and randomly checking passengers.
Threat from Pakistan-based terrorists and IS-inspired outfits: BCAS alert
"Pak-based terrorist outfits have shown their intentions to carry out attacks in (India). IS-inspired individuals have carried out gruesome attacks elsewhere, targeting civilians and police personnel. Perpetrators have initiated attacks by suicide-bombing, IED-laden vehicles, stabbing, ramming vehicle into crowd and indiscriminate firing in crowded areas."
You can expect these changes at airports
The BCAS has urged airports to "maintain maximum vigil in the run-up to/during the New Year celebrations". They should strictly regulate entry into terminal buildings and other operational areas. There should be enhanced random checks at the main gate using dog squads and more. Vehicles in the parking area must be scrutinized. Baggage screening should be intensified. Overall, physical/electronic surveillance should be enhanced.
