Dalai Lama's residence in India and security concerns
Over the years, intelligence reports have warned of threats to his life from various entities, including those backed by China.
He stepped down as the political leader of the Tibetan government-in-exile in 2011, but the question of his succession remains a contentious one, with China claiming the right to decide his successor.
However, he has said that he will clarify succession details as per Tibetan Buddhist traditions around his 90th birthday in July.
