DU registration process postponed from April 15 to May 1
The Delhi University's admission process for both under-graduation and post-graduation courses might see a delay of 15 days from the earlier announced date. The registration process of the DU, which was earlier supposed to begin from April 15, is likely to begin from May 1, as per the latest update. Further, the university's admission committee is currently making some changes regarding the admission process.
Delay because admission committee yet to complete the preparations
Chairperson of the admission committee, Rajeev Gupta, said, "We will most probably start the registration process from May 1 as we are yet to complete the preparations." "We will come up with the revised schedule once we are ready with our changed policies and procedures," he added. According to reports, the committee members are yet to reach on a consensus over many proposed changes.
Delhi University to consider student friendly initiative this academic year
The University is also planning to introduce several changes from the academic year 2019-2020, like starting some 'student friendly' initiatives such as giving applicants the opportunity to edit their forms after submission and even change their choice of college during the process.
'Several members raised objections to the distribution of marks '
A committee member, who wishes to remain anonymous, said, "Several members raised objections to distribution of marks in sports and extracurricular activities (ECA) category." The committee has proposed 5% seats for the students under these categories, which currently vary from college to college. "Any such decision has to be passed through the academic and executive councils. The admission committee cannot decide it," he added.
Admissions for ECA and sports quota will begin early
Among other changes, DU has already instructed to reduce marks from 5% to 2% for a change of stream (from school to college). Moreover, the admissions for ECA and sports quota will begin ahead of the release of cut-off lists.
Direct access to student data to reduce paper work
Meanwhile, the delay could also be because DU is in talks with the CBSE to establish a link to get access to the student database. "If we get the database of students, we will be able to get their mark sheets and certificates directly. There will be a lot more transparency. The due process of getting the database is still underway," another member said.
No point of starting registration before CBSE results announcement: Official
Moreover, a senior official said, "We will only be able to start admissions after the CBSE results, which won't be declared before the third-week of May. So there is no point of starting the registration early." Earlier in an announcement, tackling the rumors of fake result dates, CBSE has said that the results would be announced by the third-week of May.
Earlier, Delhi HC had instructed CBSE to announce results sooner
Last year, the Delhi High Court had instructed CBSE to announce the board results early and complete the reassessment requests before the start of the Delhi University's admission process. In order to achieve that, CBSE started Class XII exams from February 15 this year. The board results were announced on May 26 last year, creating problems for students seeking re-evaluation before admission in DU.
