The registration process for Delhi University's undergraduate courses for the batch of 2019-20 commenced on May 30. As per the data released by the university, English (Hons.) course emerged as the top choice among applicants just like the past few years. The fight for each seat of this course is going to be tough as high demand will lead to high cut-off. Here's more.
92,346 applications received for English (Hons) till Sunday
Reportedly, the university received around 1.7 lakh paid applications by Sunday evening. Notably, 92,346 of these are for English (Hons.). When compared to last year's data, the numbers are not actually shocking. In 2018 too, the course received 1.26 lakh applications - the highest. Diversity of BA Programme results in high demand
Last few years also saw a rise in demand for the BA Programme among the DU aspirants. Continuing the same, the course has received 80,967 applications and is third in demand. As per reports, this is due to the diversity of the course. It allows students to study various subjects. Thus, expanding their employment horizons. In 2018, the highest cut-off for this was 98.75%.
Demand for traditional Science courses went down over the years
Next among the top picks are Economics and History with 80,277 and 76,635 applications, respectively. DU's admission in-charge, Rajeev Gupta, said the data, when compared to last year's, shows similar trends. Notably, none of the Science subjects has been featured in the top five choices. According to a DU college's principal, students are losing interest in traditional Science courses due to lack of opportunities.
