Drone scare at IGI Airport, operations disrupted
Operations at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport were suspended twice after an unidentified flying object (UFO) was sighted near the airport. The drone-like device was glimpsed twice. Normal operations were also halted both times. This comes a week after the MHA warned of 'airborne terror threats': terror outfits have newer modes of operation including small drones, Chinese lanterns and paragliding equipment, it had said.
What happened?
The UFO was first spotted by the pilot of a China Airlines flight while it was landing. Officials were alerted and the runway closed from 11:20am-12:20pm. An Air Asia pilot again saw a flying object near Terminal 3 at 7:09pm when they were trying to land. All three runways were again closed till 7:55pm. At least four flights were diverted during the disruption.
