UP: Dogs maul girl to death, toll rises to 14
An eight-year-old girl died after being mauled by a pack of dogs in Sitapur district (UP), taking the toll to 14 in such fatal attacks by feral hounds in the last six months. A resident of Khairampur, the girl was bitten on her neck and thighs by dogs. She was rushed to a hospital where she succumbed to injuries, Station Officer Sachin Singh said.
Girl had gone to attend nature's call
The victim, Sonam, had gone to the fields with her father and cousins yesterday morning to attend nature's call when dogs attacked her. With Sonam's death, eight children have killed by the stray dogs this month alone.
Helpline was set up to give information about stray-dogs
Sitapur District Magistrate, Sheetal Verma, said a helpline had been set up, which the residents could call to give information about stray dogs. 164 district officials are spreading awareness about dog menace in around 22 villages in Khairabad block of the district. "We have established an animal birth control clinic for dogs in Sitapur where canines from these areas are being sterilized," Verma said.
