    What's the story

A 55-year-old doctor was shot dead at a private nursing home in Delhi's Jaitpur on Wednesday night.

The incident took place less than two months after the rape-murder of a 31-year-old doctor in Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

According to the staff at Nima Hospital, two teenagers reached the hospital late at night.

One of them asked for a change of dressing for his injured toe.

The teenagers had visited the hospital the previous night for treatment.

After their dressing was changed, they requested a prescription and went to the cabin of Dr Javed Akhtar, a practitioner of Unani Medicine.

Shortly after, nursing staff Gajala Parveen and Md Kamil heard a gunshot and found Akhtar bleeding from his head.

The hospital staff has informed police that the suspects could be around 16 or 17 years old.

Police suspect targeted killing in doctor's murder

The police are treating the incident as a case of targeted killing.

They believe that the teenagers' visit to the hospital on the previous night could have been for reconnaissance.

The Delhi Police and news agency ANI reported that Akhtar was shot from close range in his cabin.

The authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage from inside the hospital to identify the suspects involved in this murder.
