Doctor arrested for charging Rs. 1.40L for transporting COVID-19 patient
An ambulance owner was arrested for charging over Rs. one lakh from a person to transport a COVID-19 patient to Ludhiana from Gurgaon, police said on Friday. The patient's family told reporters in Ludhiana that they managed to contact a Delhi-based operator as they were unable to find ambulances in their city. They said the operator initially demanded Rs. 1.40 lakh for the service.
Rs. 95,000 was paid to the ambulance operator as advance
However, he later agreed to charge Rs. 20,000 less after the family told him that they had oxygen stock with them. "Rs. 95,000 was paid to the ambulance operator as advance, the remaining Rs. 25,000 was paid immediately upon reaching Ludhiana," the patient's daughter alleged. "The accused, Mimoh Kumar Bundwal, is also an MBBS doctor and a resident of Inderpuri's Dashgarha village," police said.
Police received information about the company's malpractice
A senior Delhi Police officer said, "On Thursday, information was received that a company Cardeacare Ambulance Pvt. Ltd. at Dashghara Village, Inderpuri was providing ambulance services and looting people by charging two to three times more than the actual rent for transportation of COVID-19 patients."
Accused has been involved in ambulance business for two years
"During the investigation, police traced Bundwal who ran the ambulance service company. He was later arrested after a case was registered at the Inderpuri Police Station in this regard," Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Urvija Goel said. "The accused is an MBBS doctor and had been involved in the ambulance business since the last two years," the DCP said.
Man arrested for cheating people on pretext of arranging plasma
In another incident, a 31-year-old man was arrested in Delhi for cheating people on the pretext of arranging plasma for treatment of COVID-19 patients. "Sunny, a resident of Nangloi, was apprehended on a complaint filed by Guneet Singh Jaggi," they said. "Jaggi told police that a woman known to him was undergoing COVID-19 treatment at the Max Hospital," a senior officer said.
Complainant got the accused's contact number from social media
"The woman infected by COVID-19 needed plasma," the officer said. "The complainant got a contact number of a person on social media who could arrange the plasma," the police said. "Jaggi contacted the person and he demanded Rs. 50,000 for arranging the plasma and asked him to deposit the amount in a bank account," the police added.
After receiving the money, the accused switched off his mobile
"The complainant transferred Rs. 10,000 in the account of the accused. However, after receiving the money, the person switched off his mobile and was unreachable," they said. "Police obtained the bank account details of the person, identified him, and apprehended the accused from near Paharganj in Delhi," Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest) Ingit Pratap Singh said.
The accused has cheated over six persons
"The person was identified as Sunny and he has cheated more than six persons to the tune of Rs. one lakh," police said. Police recovered a mobile phone and Rs. 29,460 cash from his possession. They also froze a bank account containing Rs. 62,000.
