FIR filed against Shivakumar for violating model code of conduct
A case has been filed against Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, for breaching the model code during his campaign for the Lok Sabha elections. The case stems from a video in which the Congress leader allegedly told Bengaluru residents that he would provide them with a supply of water from the Cauvery River if they voted for his brother, DK Suresh. Suresh, the only Congress candidate to win the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, is seeking reelection from Bangalore Rural.
Election commissioner expresses concern over Shivakumar's statements
According to the state election commissioner, Shivakumar's speech violated the model code of conduct and a police case has been filed for "bribery and undue influence at elections." The Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka confirmed this development on social media, stating, "An FIR is lodged by the FST of Bengaluru against Dy. Chief Minister DK Shivakumar for violation of MCC while addressing apartment owners in RR Nagara."

Shivakumar's promises to voters under scrutiny
In the contentious video, Shivakumar is heard addressing residents of a housing society in his brother's constituency. He referred to his visit as a "business deal" and assured them of a Cauvery River water supply if they voted for his brother. "I am here for a business meeting. You want Cauvery water and the CA site. All other issues are small. If I get these done, what will you do to me?" Shivakumar said while addressing the rally.
Shivakumar's assurance amidst Bengaluru's water crisis
"You have to share your confidence with me so I can care for you. You have voted by booth, not by candidate. I am DCM, Minister for BDA, Bengaluru, and water - everything I am here," he further said. "Everything is in your pockets...vote for me. Within two/three months, I'll get these done." The incident comes at a time when Bengaluru is grappling with a severe water crisis due to insufficient rainfall.
