What's the story

If Bengaluru qualifies for the Smart City competition next month, each house in the city will get its own digital address for easier administration.

The address, called standardized digital address number, is among five proposals that the Karnataka government will put forth in the last round of the competition.

With this digital address, emergency services can quickly reach distress locations using GPS technology.

Address

More about digital address project

The proposed digital address will have eight alphanumeric characters and will also be allotted to land parcels where there are no constructions yet.

The project will initially include 2 lakh houses on pilot basis before extending to other areas.

Once the project is completed, a central repository containing all addresses will be made public.

The address database will also serve as a cadastral map.

Benefits

Advantages of implementing the digital address project

The digital address system will help in integrating services encouraging a wide range of necessary facilities, including power and water supply.

The civic authorities, like Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA), will find it easier to provide and monitor the efficiency of their services.

Authorities will also be able to catch hold of tax evaders using the address repository.
