Dera's 'Qurbani League' threatens to kill Ram Rahim's opponents
The Dera Sacha Sauda's 'Qurbani League' has reportedly issued a threat to kill those speaking against its convicted chief Gurmeet Singh Ram Rahim. Those threatened include journalists, Haryana police officers, and former Dera followers who 'maligned' Ram Rahim's image. The letter also threatens their family members. Ram Rahim is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence after being sentenced in a 2002 rape case.
What the letter says?
The Qurbani League has sent a letter to several media offices in Chandigarh via registered post. It states that around 200 young followers are ready to die for Ram Rahim. It says since they won't achieve anything by committing suicide, they would instead target journalists, police officers and former Dera members. The letter also accused the BJP government of betraying the Dera.
Dera followers have turned violent in the past
The Haryana police is investigating the authenticity of the letter. Dera followers had gone on a rampage in Panchkula, Haryana, following Ram Rahim's conviction on August 25. They had damaged property worth crores of rupees and had targeted and destroyed OB vans operated by various news organizations. Later, during a sanitation operation in the Dera headquarters in Sirsa, police found an illegal explosives factory.
