A group of students at Holkar Science College in Indore held their principal and a few professors hostage for an hour on Monday.
The incident was triggered by a dispute over Holi celebrations.
The students reportedly locked the faculty members in Yashwant Hall, barricading the exit with a wooden stick and even cutting off the electricity supply.

The trouble started when posters advertising a "Holi Milan Samaroh," funded by private coaching centers, were put up by students across the college campus.
Principal Anamika Jain denied permission for the event and ordered the removal of the posters, citing security reasons.
In retaliation, student leaders locked up the faculty inside Yashwant Hall and staged a protest outside.

The matter had been brewing for days, with student leaders associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) seeking permission to host a Holi celebration on March 7.
Tensions escalated when the administration removed these posters.
The protest grew when Jain entered Yashwant Hall for a meeting, and student leaders followed her, launching a protest by barricading the door from outside.

Principal reports incident, investigation underway
After the incident, Jain informed District Collector Ashish Singh about the events.
She said security concerns were the reason behind denying permission for the event and removing the unauthorized posters.
Singh has now ordered an immediate probe into the matter.
A committee headed by AdM Rajendra Raghuvanshi is carrying out the inquiry and is likely to submit its findings in 24 hours.
