Raped since she was 4, woman takes uncle to court
Three years after she first approached the police, a woman has taken her maternal uncle to court, accusing him of raping her as a child. The woman, who is nearly 40, claimed that the uncle raped her repeatedly since the age of four and she had to undergo three abortions by the time she reached Class 10. Here are more details.
Victim repeatedly raped by uncle; scolded for speaking out
According to PTI, the woman said she was first sexually abused in 1981, at the age of 4. By Class 10, she had undergone three abortions as a result of the abuse. The accused uncle was then married off to her stepsister and the family allegedly tried to keep the abuse under wraps. The victim was even scolded for complaining against him.
Accused harassed victim for sex after her divorce in 2014
The woman claimed that the accused uncle continued to stay in the same house after marrying her stepsister. Thereafter, he regularly harassed her, she said. She also claimed that after her divorce in August 2014, he started harassing her for sex again.
Accused's sons, other relatives threatened to kill her
Eventually, the woman filed an FIR against her uncle in 2016. In the complaint, she claimed that she wasn't even allowed to attend her mother's funeral in 2016 until she acceded to her uncle's demands. She also said in the complaint that the sons of the accused uncle also threatened to kill her, along with other relatives.
Court framed charges against accused
Additional Sessions Judge Umed Singh Grewal framed charges of rape and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code, according to PTI. Reportedly, the legal counsel of the accused has submitted before the court that he conceded with the charges filed against his client. However, the counsel urged that no charges be filed against other people in the case, claiming the allegations were "vague."
