Delhi: Woman commits suicide while video chatting on WhatsApp
In what seems to be yet another incident of a suicide on air, a 21-year-old woman in Delhi hanged herself while on a video WhatsApp call with her friend. The incident took place in Northeast Delhi's Usmanpur, following an argument between the woman and her friend from a coaching institute. Currently, investigations are on to find what drove her to commit suicide. Here's more.
The events leading up to the suicide
The 21-year-old student, Shivani Sharma, was on a WhatsApp video chat with her male friend, when an argument broke out between the two. Shivani reportedly threatened to commit suicide, and the friend, owing to the video chat still being on, saw Shivani tying the noose. Unable to dissuade her, he called up Shivani's father and told him what was going on.
Shivani was declared brought dead at a hospital
Shivani's father, who owns a shop on the ground floor of the house, rushed upstairs upon getting the call. When she didn't respond to his calls, he broke down the door, and found her hanging from the ceiling fan with her sash around her neck. Family members untied the noose and rushed her to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced her brought dead.
Investigations are on, the male friend has been booked
Investigations are currently on and the male friend has been asked to be a part of it too. He has also been booked for abetment of suicide. Meanwhile, family members are also being questioned about Shivani's past for possible clues into what drove her to commit suicide. Notably, no suicide note was found, possibly indicating that the suicide might have been an on-the-spot, impromptu decision.
