Delhi: 76-year-old woman slapped by her son, dies
A 76-year-old woman died after her son slapped her outside their house in Delhi's Dwarka area on Monday. The incident happened after an argument broke out between the elderly woman, identified as Avtar Kaur, her son Ranbir, and his wife. Kaur, neighbor argued over parking of vehicles
According to the police, on Monday, there was an argument between Kaur and one of her neighbors over parking of vehicles. The neighbor, Shudhra Bisht, had also made a call to Police Control Room. But when the police reached the spot, the complainant told them that the issue had been sorted out and she did not want to pursue the matter anymore, reports say.
Kaur's son confronted her for 'picking up a fight'
Later in the day, Kaur's son confronted her about "picking up a fight" with the neighbors, and an argument broke out between the two. During the argument, the son slapped his mother on her face. In the CCTV footage, that has been widely shared on social media, Ranbir can be seen slapping his mother, after which she became unconscious and fell on the ground.
She was declared dead at a hospital
After she fell down, Kaur's daughter-in-law tried to pick her up even as her son looked on, the CCTV footage shows. After the incident, Kaur was taken to a hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. The family did not inform the police and performed her last rites, an official said. The police registered a case after the video came to the fore.
Police case registered; Ranbir arrested by cops
The police case has been filed against 45-year-old Ranbir under Section 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Bindapur Police station. Ranbir, who is unemployed, has since been arrested. "No information regarding the Medico-Legal Certificate (MLC) was received...No PCR call was also made (sic)," said DCP (Dwarka) Santosh Kumar Meena.
