Delhi woman throws acid on boyfriend for refusing to marry
In an unprecedented incident, a Delhi woman attacked her boyfriend with acid after he refused to marry her and ended their relationship, the police said. The incident took place in Vikaspuri on Tuesday when the duo was riding a scooty. Previously, the 19-year-old woman had misled the investigation claiming that she and her boyfriend were attacked by unidentified persons. Here are more details.
Man suffered 10-15% burn injuries; woman discharged after first-aid
According to IANS, the Vikaspuri police station had received a complaint about an acid attack on a couple while they were riding a scooty. While the man (24) suffered 10-15% burn injuries, covering the right side of his face, neck, and chest; the woman was discharged after receiving first-aid, PTI reported. An investigation later revealed it was the woman herself who executed the attack.
Man's statement revealed key details; helped solve the crime
When the police looked at CCTV footage of the incident, they saw no one attacking the couple. The man later told the police on Wednesday that moments before the attack, the woman had asked him to remove his helmet as it irritated her. This raised suspicions about the woman and when the police grilled her in questioning, she confessed to the crime.
Woman adamant on getting married; man wanted to end relationship
"The couple was in a relationship for over three years, but recently the boy (name undisclosed) had asked to end the relationship. The girl though was adamant on getting married and so hatched the plan to deface the boy," Monika Bhardwaj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) told IANS. The woman said she wanted to disfigure the man's face so no one could marry him.
'Moments removing helmet she threw chemical on his face'
"The girl had concealed a bottle of house cleaning chemical in her purse, but since the boy was wearing a helmet she first asked him to remove the helmet, and moments after he removed the helmet she threw the chemical on his face," Bhardwaj said.
Earlier, police had detained another suspect in the case
After the incident, the couple was initially hesitant to file a complaint, agencies reported. A complaint was filed on Wednesday and the police launched a search for unidentified assailants while awaiting forensics report. A suspect was also detained in connection with the incident, ANI reported on Thursday. Currently, the man is unemployed and used to work as a courier boy earlier.
