Senior-advocate calls lawyer to discuss case, rapes her inside Saket-court
A 32-year-old female advocate was allegedly raped by her senior inside chambers of Delhi's Saket court, police said on Sunday. The accused, PK Lal, a man in his 50s, was in an inebriated state, the victim said. After assaulting her, the accused fled but was arrested from his Sangam Vihar residence. He was later produced to Saket court and sent to judicial custody.
On pretext of discussing case, senior raped woman
A senior officer investigating the case said the woman was called by Pal on July 14 to his chambers. He said he wanted to discuss a case and the victim reached around 7 PM. The drunk senior then raped her. She called the police at 12:45 AM on Sunday from the court premises. She was taken for a medical examination.
Membership of accused suspended, tells bar association general secretary
The chambers where the incident took place were sealed, reports said, and a case registered under IPC Section 376 (rape). Secretary general of Saket Bar Association condemned the incident and said they will provide all necessary support to the victim. "We have suspended the membership of the accused and will serve a notice upon him as and when he is out on bail," Kasana said.
Earlier, a female lawyer approached Supreme Court alleging molestation
The Saket court incident isn't the only one, sadly. In May, advocate Afshan Pracha approached the Supreme Court alleging molestation by members of Tis Hazari court complex's Bar. She said such incidents kept happening and it was unfortunate. Further, Pracha informed that after her complaint, Delhi High Court formed a committee, to look into cases of sexual harassment, which female lawyers can approach.
