Delhi prepares for three days of heavy rainfall
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast three days of heavy rainfall in Delhi, starting Tuesday. A "yellow" alert has been issued by the IMD for this period, suggesting a gradual reduction in rainfall after these days. The national capital is predicted to experience scattered showers on Tuesday, with more widespread rainfall expected across the city on Wednesday and Thursday, reports said.
Temperature predictions
The city's temperature is expected to fluctuate between 27 and 34 degrees Celsius during the predicted rainfall period. Mahesh Palawat, vice president at Skymet, a private weather forecasting service, said that a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan is moving closer to Delhi, increasing the chances of heavy rainfall. This weather pattern follows Monday's scattered and light rainfall accompanied by strong surface winds of 30-40km/h throughout the day.
Delhi's rainfall records
Delhi has recorded 114.1mm of rainfall in August so far, against a monthly average of 233.1mm, according to weather officials. The IMD also predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall in West Rajasthan on Tuesday, with extremely heavy rain expected at isolated places. "Heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over east Rajasthan. Heavy rain is likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and east Uttar Pradesh," the IMD bulletin stated.
