Delhi: To surprise girlfriend, engineer cons delivery man of luxury-watch
In what is an insane spin to 'things people do in love', a B.Tech graduate from Delhi was arrested on Thursday for conning a delivery man of a wristwatch worth Rs. 90,000 to 'surprise' his girlfriend. Vaibhav Khurana, a resident of Model Town, wanted to make his girlfriend's birthday special, but since he didn't have money he devised a plan. Here's what he did.
Khurana ordered a watch, listed fake address
DCP (North) Nupur Prasad said Khurana wanted to gift an expensive watch to his girlfriend. So he ordered a Rado watch worth Rs. 90,000 from an e-commerce website. The cost of the watch was Rs. 67,000 on the website. In the column for address, Khurana listed a fake one of some place in Civil Lines, which wasn't his home.
Khurana told delivery-man he will give money on reaching home
When the delivery man, Kalipada Sahu, called Khurana on the number to deliver the order, the latter asked him to meet somewhere else. Khurana told Sahu to come to his home where he would pay money for the order. On reaching the 'house', Sahu rang the bell. Meanwhile, Khurana left with the order on the pretext of parking his bike. Sahu then approached the police.
Girlfriend tells police the number belonged to her boyfriend
An investigating team traced the number to a certain Virender Nath Shukl, but he denied using it, a claim that was true. While going through frequently contacted names, the team found a woman's number. Upon probe, she said the phone number belonged to her boyfriend. On visiting Khurana's house, the watch, and a Hunk motorcycle, he used for the crime, were discovered.
