By 2020, Delhi to get 58 more parking facilities
By 2020, Delhi is set to get 58 more parking facilities, including surface parking sites, multilevel and stack parking systems. In an effort to decongest the city, North Corporation has planned to develop 29 surface parking sites, 13 multilevel and 16 stack parking facilities by then. Currently, there are six multilevel parking lots controlled by the civic body, but all are in abysmal shape.
Will the new ones face the fate of older parking-lots?
The multilevel parking facilities at Asaf Ali Road and in Model Town stand testimony to North Corporation's reputation of ill-maintenance. While one has become a dumping ground, another remains underutilized. However, Mayor Adesh Gupta assured that the areas which have been selected for the parking lots face high footfall and congestion. Moreover, the basic idea is to "decongest areas around markets and metro stations."
By September, 29 new surface parking sites to come up
Commissioner Madhup Vyas assures that by September, "29 new surface parking sites with a total capacity of 6,260 vehicles" would be set up. This is in addition to the already-functional 95 surface parking sites and six multilevel parking lots catering to 36,621 vehicles. He added work on the Idgah Road parking facility will commence post DDA-clearance, though it has missed several deadlines till now.
Check out the sites shortlisted for the parking facilities
Sites like LNJP Hospital, Yamuna Bazar, Mukherjee Nagar, Naraina Village, and Sector-18 Rohini have been shortlisted for stack parking. Proposed multi-level parking sites are Gandhi Maidan, Sant Nagar Rani Bagh, Shastri Park and Rajender Nagar. Idgah Road will have both stack parking and multi-level parking.
