Fight over parking kills three of a family in Delhi
Three members of a family were killed in Delhi's Model Town on Thursday night in what began as a row over parking space. Estranged by a property dispute, two businessman brothers Jaspal Singh and Gurjeet Singh, and Japsal's wife Prabhjot Kaur, died in the freak incident. Gurjeet's son was seriously injured. Here's how an unsolved family conflict and years of resentment claimed three lives.
The brothers had an acrimonious relationship
The two brothers worked in real estate and ran eateries. They both lived with their families on separate floors of their large, three-storey paternal bungalow 'Toofan Kothi', named after their late father Toofan Singh. Each wanted the other to leave the house. Heated standoffs were frequent. They had lodged nine FIRs against each other on charges as serious as molestation and culpable homicide.
Gurjeet first shattered the rear windscreen of Jaspal's car
They had nine cars combined which they parked in the limited space outside their house. Arguments for parking were frequent and nasty. Between 11:30-11:45pm on Thursday, Jaspal was taking out his Audi sedan when Gurjeet arrived in his Ford SUV. A heated argument ensued. Gurjeet shattered the rear windscreen of Jaspal's car. Jaspal, in return, attacked Gurjeet and his son Jagnoor, reported Hindustan Times.
Gurjeet's security guards arrested for killing Jaspal and his wife
On seeing Gurjeet getting attacked, his two personal security guards shot at Jaspal. Trying to save him, his wife Prabhjot intervened and got killed instead. The guards fired twice more at Jaspal and then fled. All three were declared brought dead by the doctors. Jagnoor, grievously injured, is hospitalized. The guards, who also work as bouncers at Gurjeet's bar, were arrested on Friday evening.
