Now, Delhi students can get learner's driving license in college!
In yet another step making lives easier for the people, the Delhi government is authorizing directors and principals of colleges, polytechnics and ITIs to issue learner's driving license to students aged 18 and above. This is expected to benefit over 2L students annually, said Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot. The government is also in the final stages of rolling out its signature doorstep delivery scheme.

Here's how students can avail the new facility
Under the new scheme, institutions will offer facilities to students over 18 to register for and take the learner's license test online at the college itself. They will have to score at least 60% in the test. One month after the license is issued till the sixth month of issuance, they'll have to apply for permanent license. Currently, only regional transport offices are empowered to issue permanent licenses.
Notification to be issued in "couple of days"
The aim of the move is to reduce workload and crowding at the transport offices, reports TOI. "The first notification (empowering institutions) will be issued in the next couple of days. I have already cleared the file," Gahlot said.
Other citizens can also soon get license at home
It will soon be easy for other Delhi citizens to get their driving license too. With the doorstep delivery program, you can simply call on a to-be-issued government helpline number. A facilitator will visit your home and help you fill out the form. However, applicants will have to transport offices for the driving test. After you clear it, they'll deliver the license at home.
