Delhi: Man stalks teen, kidnaps her, rapes for 10 days
After Kathua and Unnao, tales of horror continue to emerge from more places. A 19-year-old woman in Delhi was allegedly kidnapped, held captive in Aman Vihar for 10 days and raped repeatedly by a 'friend.' Her hands and legs were tied and her mouth gagged. She was allegedly beaten with belts and rods. Curiously, her family didn't lodge a missing complaint all these days.
The girl and the alleged rapist were neighbors earlier
According to the victim, they used to stay in the same locality as 30-year-old Kuldeep in Sultanpuri since more than a year ago. Few months earlier, he started stalking her. The girl's family recently moved out to Aman Vihar. On March 30, she met Kuldeep and he took her to his home. But there, he held her captive and confined her in a room.
His family knew about the victim, but didn't inform police
Over the next 10 days, he allegedly raped her repeatedly. When she resisted, he beat her. After tying and gagging her, he also locked the room to prevent her from escaping. All this while, his family knew what he was doing, but didn't inform police, cops said. The girl's family didn't file a missing complaint either, said DCP MN Tiwari.
Hunt on for the accused
On April 9, the girl managed to flee and reached her parents, who took her to the police station. Her multiple injuries were treated and she was counseled. An FIR has been lodged for stalking, kidnapping, rape, and voluntarily causing hurt, among others. Kuldeep is absconding, but his family is being questioned. Two teams have been formed to nab him.
'Stalking often a precursor to serious crimes'
Congress-leader Shashi Tharoor had proposed making stalking a non-bailable offense, saying there was a need for a "crackdown on stalking, not just as a crime in itself, but as a possible precursor to worse crimes." Presently, stalking is punishable by imprisonment of upto three years.
