Delhi shop serves pomegranate juice mixed with chemicals; 2 detained
Two men were detained in Rajinder Nagar, Delhi, on Tuesday for allegedly selling pomegranate juice laced with chemicals. The police were alerted to this hazardous practice after receiving information about potential chemical adulteration at the juice shop. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered a suspicious substance which has been sent for laboratory analysis.
Shop workers claim owner instructed chemical use
When questioned by the police, both Ayub Khan and Rahul stated that Shoaib, the shop owner, had directed them to add the chemical to the juice. A Food Safety Inspector was summoned to collect a sample of the recovered substance for further examination. The police have stated that any subsequent action against those implicated will be determined by the results of this report.
Locals assault accused before police intervention
Before the police were alerted to the situation, sources report that Khan and Rahul were assaulted by locals. Weeks earlier, a shopkeeper in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, was thrashed by locals after he was allegedly caught serving fruit juices mixed with urine. In a similar incident, a Telangana kulfi and ice-cream vendor was arrested in March for allegedly masturbating and mixing semen in falooda.
