    What's the story

In a shocking incident, a 12-year-old at a government school in Delhi's Saket attacked his teacher with an iron rod for scolding him.

The teacher sustained severe injuries, but is currently out of danger and under treatment.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the student under Section 308 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for attempt to commit culpable homicide.

    Here's more.

    Incident

    Details of what went down

The incident took place on Saturday morning when the teacher discovered a foot-and-a-half-long iron rod in the boy's bag.

The teacher confiscated the rod, and complained to the student's uncle over the phone.

However, when the boy tried taking the rod back, the teacher intervened.

The boy then attacked the teacher with the rod, causing injuries above the man's right eye, ear, and head.

    Aftermath

The student scaled the school's boundary wall and fled

Subsequently, the police were called, and team was rushed to the spot.

The teacher, who suffered grievous injuries, was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) trauma centre.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses told the police that the student, after thrashing the teacher, rushed out of class, scaled the school's boundary wall and fled.

Currently, efforts are underway to apprehend him.

    Safety

The Government School Teachers' Association is concerned about safety

The incident has also prompted the Government School Teacher's Association to hold a "mahapanchayat" to discuss issues related to school teachers' security.

"Several such instances have happened in the recent past when government school teachers were attacked by either students or their kin. The government is doing nothing to ensure safety and security of teachers," said Ajay Veer Singh, general secretary of the association.
