Delhi: 14-year-old behind hoax bomb threat; wanted to skip class
The Delhi Police has identified a 14-year-old student as the culprit behind a bomb threat email sent to Summer Fields School, a private institution in Delhi's Greater Kailash area. The student reportedly sent the hoax email on Friday because he did not want to attend school. The alarming message falsely claimed that a bomb had been planted on the premises. The email had also mentioned two other schools in an attempt to make the threat appear more genuine.
School's swift response to bomb threat hoax
Upon receiving the threat, Summer Fields School administration promptly evacuated the building and alerted authorities. Principal Shalini Agarwal stated, "We evacuated the students within 10 minutes of receiving the email." Despite their thorough investigation lasting over two hours, no suspicious objects or explosive materials were found. A senior police officer confirmed that the threat was declared a hoax after no evidence of explosives was uncovered during their comprehensive search.
Hoax email targets multiple schools
The incident is not isolated, as over 130 schools across Delhi-NCR received similar bomb threats via email earlier in May. In June too, similar threats were received by schools, several museums, and hospitals in Delhi. A 13-year-old boy was recently detained by the Delhi Police for sending a hoax bomb threat to a Dubai-bound flight from Delhi airport. The boy admitted to sending the email "just for fun."
