State-level gold medalist wrestler arrested in Delhi for attempted murder
A two-time state-level wrestling champion was arrested on Wednesday in an attempt to murder case. The police arrested Summet at the Mukarba Chowk bus stand in Delhi while he was trying to flee. This arrest is connected to an incident that occurred on April 21, when Sumeet and four of his associates—Sagar, Nikhil, Dev, and Aniket—tried to murder one Vishnu. Sagar had allegedly opened fire on Vishnu, but the bullet missed the target.
Details of the attempted murder case emerge
Following the unsuccessful murder attempt, all five suspects fled the scene. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), Satish Kaushik, revealed that their investigation led them to believe that Sumeet was planning to escape from Delhi to Haryana via bus. "A raid was conducted at Mukarba Chowk bus stand and Sumeet was arrested," confirmed DCP Kaushik.
Sumeet's wrestling accolades and personal connections revealed
"An FIR under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the accused on April 24 and further investigation was launched," the DCP added. He also disclosed that Sumeet was friends with Sagar, the associate believed to have fired at Vishnu. Notably, Sumeet had won two gold medals in a state-level wrestling event.
