Delhi Police ACP commits suicide by jumping off police HQ
On Thursday, a senior officer of the Delhi Police allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the 10th floor of the Delhi Police headquarters in ITO, New Delhi. The officer, Prem Ballabh, held the rank of assistant commissioner of police (ACP). Following the incident, which occurred around 10.15am, Ballabh was rushed to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
Ballabh was reportedly depressed, and undergoing treatment
Ballabh was posted in the crime and traffic unit of the Delhi Police. Following the incident, a probe was launched to determine where Ballabh's demise was an accident. Initial investigations have revealed that Ballabh had been suffering from depression, and was undergoing treatment at the GTB Hospital. His family members have been informed of the tragic incident.
Two senior police officers had committed suicide earlier this year
Earlier, in May this year, senior Maharashtra Police officer, Himanshu Roy, committed suicide by shooting himself at his Mumbai residence. Roy was battling cancer, and had been part of many important investigations. In the same month, senior Uttar Pradesh Police officer Rajesh Sahani shot himself dead with his service revolver in a room of the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) headquarters in Lucknow.
