#JNUViolence: Masked miscreants attack JNU students, teachers; 20 injured
The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) of Delhi witnessed massive violence on Sunday evening when a group of masked miscreants barged into the campus and attacked students and teachers. The attackers, who were armed with sticks and stones, also damaged property on the campus. At least 20 persons, including the President of JNU Students' Union (JNUSU), were injured in the incident. JNUSU alleged involvement of ABVP in the attack
The JNUSU has alleged that BJP-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) was behind the attack on the JNU campus. However, the ABVP alleged that its members were attacked by students from leftist parties. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also directed Delhi Police chief Amulya Patnaik to send a report on the violence, said reports.
Hundreds protest against the attack at police headquarters
Following the attack on the JNU campus, hundreds of people gathered at the Delhi Police HQ to protest the violence at the university. The JNU administration earlier said that the attackers were still inside the campus, adding that cops have been called. However, later in the evening, the police said that they held a flag march and the situation on campus was under control.
Priyanka Gandhi reaches AIIMS to visit those injured in attack
Meanwhile, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reached the AIIMS Trauma Center where 18 people injured in the JNU violence, including the JNUSU President Aishe Ghose, have been admitted. An official at the AIIMS Trauma Center was quoted by news agency ANI as saying, "Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union (JNUSU) President Aishe Ghosh has got lacerations on forehead and is undergoing investigations."
Goons entered campus; attacked with sticks and other weapons: Priyanka
Priyanka tweeted, "Wounded students at AIIMS Trauma Centre told me that goons entered the campus and attacked them with sticks and other weapons. Many had broken limbs and injuries on their heads. One student said the police kicked him several times on his head."

"India has an established global reputation as a liberal democracy. Now Modi-Shah's goons are rampaging through our universities, spreading fear among our children, who should be preparing for a better future," Priyanka wrote in another tweet. "To add insult to injury, BJP leaders are all over the media pretending...it wasn't their goons who unleashed this violence. The people are not deceived," she added.
Swaraj Abhiyan chief Yogendra Yadav manhandled
Activist and Swaraj Abhiyan President, Yogendra Yadav, was also heckled and manhandled outside the JNU's main gate reportedly in the presence of police. Yadav, who is a JNU alumnus, was reportedly pushed to the ground by some unidentified miscreants when he was reprimanding the police for preventing media persons from entering the university instead of stopping the violence on the campus.

"This is an attack right under the nose of Delhi Police...this was an attack on the university. It is beyond shocking," Yadav told NDTV. He also claimed the police were present at all gates of the JNU but did not act to halt the violence.

Meanwhile, commenting on the JNU violence, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stated, "We strongly condemn the violence on JNU campus." "This is a desperate attempt by forces of anarchy, who are determined to use students as cannon fodder, create unrest to shore up their shrinking political footprint," it added. "Universities should remain places of learning and education," the party said.
