In what marks yet another disturbing incident in the national capital, a 24-year-old man allegedly strangled his wife to death in front of their two-year-old daughter, and sat with the body for over 24 hours with his daughter on his lap before surrendering to the police. The man, identified as one Kamil, used to work as a peon at a DU college. Here's more.
The man confessed to the murder on Sunday
At around 2am on Sunday, Kamil, carrying his two-year-old daughter, came to the Kamla Market police station claiming to have murdered his wife. The officer on duty first presumed Kamil to be drunk, but after Kamil insisted that he had committed the crime, the police, on Kamil's invitation, dispatched a team to check his house at Shakir ki Dandi in Kamla Market.
What police found when they visited Kamil's house
When police arrived at the house, they found Kamil's wife, 22-year-old Reshma, lying dead on a mattress. She had strangulation marks around her neck, and her face had turned blue, leading police to suspect poisoning as well. Subsequently, the body was sent for post-mortem to the Lok Nayak Hospital, which confirmed that Reshma had indeed been killed by strangulation.
Kamil suspected that Reshma was having an affair
According to the police, Kamil had been harboring suspicions about Reshma having an affair, and the couple reportedly had frequent arguments over it. On the night of the murder, Reshma returned from her parents home with their daughter. Subsequently, an altercation broke out, and Kamil strangled her. He sat with the body for over 24 hours, with his daughter on his lap, before surrendering.
Reshma's family alleged that she was murdered for dowry
Reshma's family, however, alleged that Kamil had tortured and murdered the 22-year-old for dowry. They also refused to take custody of the couple's daughter following Kamil's confession. Subsequently, the two-year-old child was handed over to Kamil's family. Kamil himself has been arrested and has been booked for murder and dowry death.
