Delhi: Man shot dead for throwing stones at pet dog
Pet owners' love for their pets is often equated with parents' love for their children, but how far can a pet owner go to protect their pets? Turns out, some are even willing to kill. On Sunday, a 30-year-old man was shot dead in Delhi by a pet-owner after he allegedly threw stones at the accused's dog. Here are the details.
The incident took place in northeast Delhi's Welcome Colony
The incident took place when 30-year-old Aafaq, a tailor by profession, was out for a walk in northeast Delhi's Welcome Colony. While Aafaq was walking, a dog allegedly started barking and tried to bite the tailor. At this point, Aafaq reportedly threw a few stones at the animal to keep it away. Little did he know that it would cost him his life.
Aafaq was shot after a brief altercation
Prima facie, police said that it looked like the dog belonged to one Mehtab, who saw Aafaq throwing stones at the animal. On seeing what was going down, Mehtab reportedly quickly brought his gun from his house and then confronted Aafaq. The two then had a brief argument, after which Mehtab pulled out his gun and shot the tailor.
The accused is absconding and investigations are underway
The incident came under police scanner when Aafaq's father-in-law called the police at around 7pm and informed them that Aafaq had been shot by someone. Police subsequently reached the spot and rushed Aafaq to the Guru Teg Bahadur hospital, but the tailor was declared brought dead. Meanwhile, Mehtab, a habitual criminal, remains absconding as of now, and investigations are underway.
In October last year, a similar incident had taken place
This is not the first such incident to have taken place in recent times. In October 2018, one Vijender Rana was brutally stabbed to death by three men after he refused to say sorry to a dog. Vijender's elder brother was also stabbed thrice, but survived the ordeal. The incident, which took place at southwest Delhi's Uttam Nagar, exposed Delhi's short fuse again.
