Man poses as Piyush Goyal's secretary; dupes youngsters of lakhs
A 56-year-old Delhi man has been arrested for cheating youngsters by posing as Railways Minister Piyush Goyal's personal secretary. The accused, Raj Kumar Verma, was nabbed from the Indira Gandhi International Airport on 13 March, when he was returning from Patna, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) G Ram Gopal Naik said. Verma looted youngsters on the pretext of providing jobs in the Indian Railways.
Complainant had given Rs. 2 lakh for job in railways
Verma cheated Mukesh Chaudhary, a domestic help in Delhi's Vasant Kunj, claiming that he works as Piyush Goyal's personal secretary and can easily get him a railways job for Rs. 2.5 lakh. Chaudhary gave Rs. 2 lakh to the accused. Meanwhile, three others had also given some money to Verma for jobs. The accused didn't get them any jobs and also changed his address.
Verma and family flee after taking money from people
Later, it came to the knowledge of the complainant, Chaudhary, that the accused, Verma, has also duped some other persons similarly on the pretext of giving jobs in the railways and fled away from his address. During the investigation, it was found that the accused, along with his family, had left his rented accommodation in Chhattarpur. However, the accused was arrested on 13 March.
The accused hails from Gorakhpur; came to Delhi last year
In 2004, Verma started a medical shop in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur. But, the shop was closed in 2010 due to flyover construction there. In June 2017, after incurring losses in different businesses, he sold his entire property there and came to Delhi to stay with his elder son, DCP Naik said. The accused then thought of duping people by offering jobs in railways.
