Man involved in 50 burglaries arrested, Rs. 20L-worth jewelry recovered
A 24-year-old man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in around 50 burglaries in southwest Delhi's Bindapur, police said. Police recovered jewelry, estimated to be worth Rs. 20 lakh, from the accused Akash, a resident of Anand Vihar in Uttam Nagar. The police also seized laptops and ATM cards among other things from Akash and solved 17 cases. Here are more details.
CCTV footage gave a clue to nab the accused
The Bindapur Police had received a complaint of burglary and started investigating the matter, during which it came to light that the burglar had entered inside a house after cutting the iron net of the back gate of the house. During an investigation, the team analyzed the CCTV cameras and found that a street dog had bitten the accused's leg.
Police arrested the accused on March 31
The team checked all the nearby private and government hospitals where the man could have gone for treatment for the dog bite, police said. On March 31, police received a tip-off about Akash coming to Khera Park in Uttam Nagar to meet one of his associates and to dispose of some of the stolen jewelry, police said. Police laid a trap and arrested him.
The accused was a drug addict
During the interrogation, the accused revealed that he came to Delhi in 2012 and became a drug addict due to bad company, police said. Due to his addiction, he started house thefts and burglaries. While some part of the stolen money he would use to fulfill his drug needs, the remaining jewelry was being stashed by him for his marriage.
