The scheme was one of the major promises made during the BJP's election campaign in Delhi and has been allotted ₹5,100 crore in this year's budget for its implementation.
Scheme specifics
Eligibility criteria and implementation details
The Mahila Samridhi Yojana will be available to women between 18-60 years of age, with an annual income of up to ₹3 lakh.
A special committee headed by CM Gupta will monitor its implementation.
The government has also announced plans for a registration portal, which will be launched soon, through which eligible beneficiaries can register and access terms and conditions related to the scheme.
Safety measures
Government's commitment to women's safety and welfare
Apart from the financial aid scheme, CM Gupta also announced other initiatives to ensure women's safety and welfare in Delhi.
These include more CCTV cameras and pink police stations across the city.
A 'One Stop Centre' will be established in every district to look into women's problems, and pink toilets will be constructed wherever necessary.
Party support
BJP's commitment to women's empowerment
BJP national president JP Nadda welcomed the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, saying it was a step toward empowering women of Delhi. The scheme was in line with the party's commitment to women's empowerment and economic independence.
However, AAP leader Atishi accused the government of betraying women by not having yet credited the promised payments under this scheme.
