Delhi govt stops funding to 28 DU colleges
The Delhi government has stopped funding to 28 DU colleges for allegedly not forming governing bodies. Twelve are fully-funded; the rest are partially-funded. The government in June asked DU to form governing bodies before making appointments. It is currently hiring faculty. "I cant allow unchecked corruption and irregularities to be sustained on govt funds in the name of Education," tweeted Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.

Colleges in trouble
The move might cause problems for colleges, especially the fully-funded ones. However, according to DU officials, they raise Rs. 24-25cr in four instalments (July, November, January, March). Considering this year's first round is already complete, "there won't be any immediate impact". Dean of Colleges Devesh K Sinha has written to the government, assuring governing bodies will be formed in a couple of weeks.
Which colleges have been named in its list?
The 12 fully-funded colleges include Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Shaheed Raj Guru College, Maharaja Agarsen College and Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies. The other 16 include Gargi College, Kamla Nehru College, Delhi College of Arts & Commerce and Shivaji College.
