Delhi mother 'sells' 15-year-old daughter to Haryana man for Rs.70,000
Police have rescued a 15-year-old girl from Delhi's Vasant Kunj whose mother 'sold' her as a bride to a Haryana man for Rs. 70,000. A medical examination has confirmed she was sexually assaulted too. The mother is on the run, but the man who 'bought' her has been nabbed. He has been charged with kidnapping with intent to confine, among others.
The girl was taken to Najafgarh and married off
The stepsister told police that the victim's mother had married twice, and had two daughters from the second marriage. On April 20, she took them both, aged 14 and 15, to Najafgarh, where they met the man and his family. A 'deal' was sealed and the elder daughter's marriage ceremony conducted. Her sister informed the stepsister about it, who told her maternal grandparents.
Man arrested, girl rescued, hunt on for mother
The grandparents along with the stepsister approached police on May 1 and lodged a complaint. While probing the case, cops came across a mobile number that led them to the 35-year-old man in Rohtak. A team reached the place, arrested him and rescued her. A manhunt has now been launched for the mother. Meanwhile, the 15-year-old is being provided counseling to help her cope.
