Wanted gangster Rajiv Bharti, three criminals killed in South Delhi
In a big win for the Delhi Police, one of the city's most wanted gangsters, Rajesh Bharti, was shot and killed in an encounter in South Delhi on Saturday morning. The shootout took place in Fatehpur Beri's Chanan Hola village, near Chhatarpur, when the Delhi Police's Special Cell intercepted Bharti, who was travelling with three other goons. All four criminals were killed. Here's more.
Who is Rajiv Bharti?
Rajiv Bharti had been on the run for a while now. In February, he escaped the custody of the Haryana Police, and was carrying a reward of Rs. 1 lakh for his arrest. There were at least 25 cases of murder, extortion etc. against Bharti.
Four officers were injured in the shootout
The Special Cell, which is the anti-terror unit of the Delhi Police, intercepted Bharti and his men at a farmhouse. The criminals were asked to surrender, but they fired at the cops. A shootout ensued where at least 35 rounds of gunfire was exchanged. The criminals got heavily injured in the shootout, and passed away at a hospital. Four police officers were also injured.
