Earthquake of 4.7 magnitude jolts Delhi-NCR: Details here
An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 on the Richter Scale struck Delhi-NCR on Friday evening. There have been no reports of property damage or casualties so far. This comes just hours after a 4.6-magnitude quake jolted Mizoram earlier in the day. The national capital has been witnessing mild earthquakes quite frequently over the last few months. Quake struck at depth of 5km; tremors lasted several seconds
According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the epicenter of the earthquake, which occurred at 7:00 pm, was near Gurugram. Tremors were felt for several seconds in many parts of the national capital, said reports. The quake, measuring 4.7 on the Richter Scale, reportedly struck at a depth of 5km. The epicenter was 60km south-southwest of Gurugram, said the NCS.

Series of low to medium intensity earthquakes in Delhi-NCR
The national capital has been experiencing a series of low to medium intensity earthquakes over the past few months. Earlier, on June 8, an earthquake of magnitude 2.1 hit Delhi and parts of the National Capital Region. And, before this, a 4.6-magnitude quake struck the national capital on May 29. As many as 20 earthquakes have reportedly been recorded in Delhi-NCR since April.
Delhi-NCR region falls in Seismic Zone IV
In India, there are four seismic zones - which include Zones II, III, IV, and V - and Delhi-NCR falls in Zone IV. Seismic Zone IV (severe) and Zone V (very severe) reportedly have a high probability of earthquakes.
