HC raps Delhi Metro, CISF after deaf-mute girl goes missing
The Delhi High Court slammed the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) after a 19-year-old deaf and mute girl, Sunita, went missing from the Adarsh Nagar metro station. "Had (security officials) been vigilant, she would have not been lost. They should be hauled up for this," a bench observed.
What happened?
According to reports, Sunita, her mother and sister were travelling from Lok Nayak Hospital to her home on April 21. The mother and the sister got down at Jahangirpuri station, but she was separated from them. CCTV footage showed her getting down at the next station, Adarsh Nagar, and exit the station despite not having a token; there were no guards at the gate.
'Home Ministry hasn't permitted guards at entry/exit gates'
By rule, no guards are deployed at metro station entry/exit gates. CISF said last year, they had requested the Home Ministry to permit deployment of personnel at the gates after masked men attacked a DMRC staffer. No action was taken in the matter.
Use social media to track missing persons: HC
Counsel for the Delhi police, Rahul Mehra, reported the woman has likely been kidnapped. Police said it will form a Special Investigation Team to look for her; searches will be launched in NCR, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Red-light areas will be in focus, they said. The HC also directed them to release photos of missing persons on social media.
