Casteist question in DSSSB exam: Delhi-court asks police for report
A Delhi court has asked the city police to submit a report on a plea seeking action against authorities over alleged casteist question in the examination for recruitment of primary teachers in Delhi government schools. Special Judge S K Malhotra has asked the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Vivek Vihar to file a report by the next date of hearing on December 13.
Question used derogatory terms to describe Dalit community
The examination was conducted by Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) on October 13 and the multiple-choice question number 61 in the Hindi Language and Comprehension paper had allegedly used some derogatory terms for describing the Dalit community. Thereafter, the board had said that the "casteist" undertones appeared due to an "inadvertent error" and added that the question wouldn't be considered during evaluation process.
Plea says senior officials allegedly selected the insulting question
The plea was filed by advocate Satya Prakash Gautam who said he came to know about the objectionable question after going through a news item and he got a copy of the question paper from social media. The plea, seeking lodging of FIR against the persons concerned, said senior officials, who were part of the examination committee, allegedly selected the derogatory and insulting question.
Plea seeks actions against concerned persons under SC/ST, IT Act
"They want to create an atmosphere of social disharmony and...promote enmity between different groups on the grounds of caste," the plea alleged, while accusing the persons concerned under the provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Information Technology Act, and IPC. It also sought action against the SHO of Anand Vihar Police Station under the SC/ST (POA) Act for not lodging an FIR.
