Delhi: Unable to pay loan, friends stab and kill businessman
In a bone-chilling incident, a 35-year-old businessman died after allegedly being hit with an iron rod, stabbed and then run over by two of his friends, one of whom had borrowed money from him and was unable to repay, police said yesterday. The deceased was identified as Pawan Bathla, they added. The incident took place this week in North Delhi's Timarpur area.
Accused called Bathla to an isolated place for paying loan-interest
Cops said one of the accused was unable to pay a loan of Rs. 2.35 lakh he had taken from Bathla and hatched a conspiracy to kill him. On Tuesday, they called him to an isolated location on the pretext of paying interest on the loan. They then allegedly hit him with an iron rod, stabbed him and ran over him using his vehicle.
Passer-by witnesses man being run over, informs police
The crime came to light when a passer-by witnessed the man being run over by the two accused and informed the police about it around 9.30 pm on Tuesday, the officer said. The victim was found lying on a secluded stretch near Gandhi Vihar in Timarpur. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead, the officer added.
Both arrested and have confessed to the crime, case registered
The accused, Nitin and another person- Mannu Wadhwa were arrested yesterday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Nupur Prasad said. During interrogation, Nitin confessed to hatching a plan to kill Bathla as he couldn't pay him the loan. A case has been registered, the police said.
