Delhi airport staff arrested for allegedly raping aspiring air hostess
A 32-year-old ground staff working at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi has been arrested by police for impersonating a senior manager of a leading airline and allegedly raping an aspiring air hostess. The accused, Bhola Shankar, was subsequently produced before a Delhi court which then remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody. Here are the details.
How the accused tricked the complainant
According to police, Shankar created a fake profile on social media, impersonating one Daksh Gupta, and claiming to be a senior manager of a leading airline. The complainant met Shankar on social media itself a few months ago. She told him that she had applied for a job at the same airline whose senior manager Shankar was pretending to be. Shankar promised to help.
Police say Shankar pretended to be the Good Samaritan
"The woman told him she had applied for a job as an airhostess at the same airline, and asked for help. He promised to look into it and asked her to come for a meeting," a senior police official told IE.
Claiming credit, Shankar demanded sexual favors and raped her
Subsequently, Shankar asked the aspiring air hostess to meet him. The complainant told police that she had met Shankar several times. Meanwhile, as she cleared two stages of the recruitment process, Shankar took credit, claiming that he had referred her to his seniors. Then, he started asking for sexual favors, and then allegedly raped her. Further investigations are underway.
